Can I do high-intensity strength training twice a day?

I’ve been doing Chalene Extreme 3 times a week, and I was wondering if it would be ok to do this twice a day. I know you’re not supposed to strength train every day, but does twice in one day count?

Answer:

You can do it if you feel you need an exercise fix, but don’t do the same muscle groups 2x a day.  You don’t want to risk injury.  That’s an extreme workout and muscles MUST have time to heal.  Click here for some free workouts if you get bored of watching the same DVDs day after day.

Quick answer here. No, it will not be good for you to train twice a day. Rule of thumb here, your fitness goals are not reached in the gym, they are reached after you leave the gym and eat a good food plan and rest your muscles. When you do any type of resistance training, you are actually breaking down muscle tissue. You need to give those muscles time to repair themselves. This time varied for many, from one day to one week. Regardless, it’s good to get in your one workout for the day and then wait for at least 24 hours before working out again. It’s no different that getting a cut on your hand. If you cut your hand, then one day later you cut in same spot, and do that everyday, the cut will never heal. If you cover the cut, don’t hit it, etc, it’ll heal.

One other thing I’ll say. There are serious workout fanatics in absolutely incredible shape. Pro athletes, bodybuilders, etc. Even most of them do not work out twice a day. If they don’t need it, why would the average gym goer?

That would be a bad idea. You would be over-training yourself that way.

When you over-train your body, burning fat will not be enough to fuel your body (not enough energy). Your body will turn on your muscles for fuel, which is bad on many levels.

Muscles only need to be trained 1-2 a week, MAX. It takes muscles a long time to recover and get ready to workout again.

3 days a week is perfect. You can’t go wrong with that :P

    Cheers ^^
